The Life Of Freddie Mercury
22nd September 2.15pm-4.15pm
Community Talks In Herne Bay – Literature: The Life Of Freddie Mercury with Music Writer and Broadcaster Lesley-Ann Jones. Freddie Mercury lived the dream. As the flamboyant frontman of legendary rock band Queen, his life was filled with adventure. Yet, despite his outrageous persona, he was famously a shy man who valued his privacy and kept his innermost feelings hidden. When he died of AIDS in 1991 aged 45, his private, complex life died with him. Or so we thought. Last year, Lesley-Ann Jones caused a media storm when her latest biography Love Freddie: Freddie Mercury’s Secret Life and Love’ hit the book-shelves. It revealed that Freddie Mercury had fathered a secret daughter in the early 1970s. Referring to herself only as ‘B’, she had sought out Lesley-Ann to tell her story and put to rest the many myths and lies that had long blighted Freddie’s life. His collection of seventeen handwritten diaries, given to his daughter by Freddie, were shared with Lesley-Ann in order to restore his extraordinary true story. In this talk we will be exploring the life of Freddie Mercury with Lesley-Ann Jones, who had written and published four previous books on Freddie, and who knew him for many years. Lesley-Ann has been on a roller coaster ride of world-wide media frenzy since the news broke…Controversy, scepticism and debate about the book continue to rage to this day. ‘B’ died on 5th September this year, following a long battle with chordoma, a rare form of spinal cancer. Lesley-Ann remains in touch with her widower, Thomas. The mystery lives on. This afternoon, she will be signing copies of Love Freddie: Freddie Mercury’s Secret Life and Love, which is available in both hardback and paperback (Whitefox Publications Ltd), as well as copies of the paperback editions of her earlier books about Freddie.
