Sister George, a much loved character in a popular 1960’s radio soap opera, is a cheerful district nurse, who ministers to the medical needs and personal problems of the local villagers. However, June Buckridge, the actress who plays ‘George’, is the antithesis of the sweet character she plays. When an executive from the BBC, Mrs Mercy Croft, comes to visit, June worries that she is going to be written out of the series and consults her friend Madame Xenia, a clairvoyant whose quirky predictions have a habit of coming true! June’s life is turned upside down by the ensuing events and she vents her anger on her flatmate, the naïve Alice ‘Childie’ McNaught. This 1960’s era play contains adult themes that reflect attitudes and language of its time.
