Ryarsh Ramble

Wed 24 August 2022 10:00 hrs – 5.8 miles/9.3 km – Moderate (Finishes 13:15 approx.)

Ryarsh Ramble

Starts at 10:00: Park and meet in Birling Road, Ryarsh in front of the Village Hall. (ME19 5LS, TQ671599)

From the village of Ryarsh we head up to the North Downs Way where we head in a north easterly direction before descending to Paddlesworth and past the medieval Anglican church of St. Benedict.  The church dates from the early 12thC. and closed as a church in 1678. The isolated position of the church suggests that St Benedict’s originally served a village that was wiped out in the Black Death of 1348.  We then pass through farmland before coming to Birling Ashes, through woodland skirting the M20 and back to Ryarsh. Bring picnic lunch or alternatively pub at end serving lunches (Duke of Wellington). This walk is in partnership with the Old Chalk New Downs project.

Terrain: Good footpaths throughout consisting of farmland, woods, North Downs Way and quiet lanes. Circular walk.

Estimated finish time: 13:15
