My Life as a Tiller Girl

My Life as a Tiller Girl
15th October 8pm TN13 1XT
Sevenoaks Society Talks presents “My Life as a Tiller Girl” by Jackie Simmonds The Tiller Girls are said to be the world’s longest running dance group. John Tiller started the group in Manchester back in 1889, but their heyday was during the 1950s and ‘60s, as some may well remember. Our speaker Jackie Simmonds has spent a long career in the entertainment industry, becoming a Tiller Girl in the 1960s, and we hear that she posed between the two Ls in “PALLADIUM” on the famous revolving stage of the Sunday night TV show. Although the London Palladium has always been their spiritual home, according to Wikipedia, as well as at Buckingham Palace they also appeared at Sevenoaks School. (Verification needed!). Her talk on her experiences seems one not to be missed! All are welcome to attend our talks, for a small donation of £5 at the door, (deductible from your first annual membership subscription if you join the Society). Light refreshments are served from 7.30. For further information visit our web-site: www.sevenoakssociety.co.uk.
