Making Deep Cuts

26th October
Making Deep Cuts
Dave Lamberton gives an insight into activities of barbers and surgeons from the Medieval period through to the Civil War at the monthly meeting of Newington History Group on Thursday, October 26 (7pm) in the Village Hall, High Street, Newington ME9 7JJ. He’ll detail the bizarre and bloody practices carried out by barbers whose role, in those days, commonly doubled-up as surgeons both at home and on the battlefields. The traditional red and white pole that used to hang outside most barber shops represented blood and bandages and was a reference to those surgical times. All welcome, £4 at door, inc. refreshments, free parking.  NHG actively seeks to unearth, preserve and promote the heritage of the village and neighbouring areas. It meets on the fourth Thursday at 7pm. For more details contact newingtonhistorygroup@outlook.com; through its website: newingtonhistory.uk; or call: 07506 239970.
