Britain is caught totally unprepared and suffers a humiliating defeat after which the search for scapegoats is quietly dropped when the scapegoats blame the Government. The Crimea? The Boer War? Dunkirk? The Falklands? This time we’ll be looking at the Dutch raid on Chatham: an attack which caused mass panic in London and which saw Dutch marines land on Sheppey.
