COMMUNITY TALKS IN HERNE BAY
TUESDAY 26 APRIL (2.15pm-4.15pm) PHILOSOPHY: THE PURPOSE OF
PHILOSOPHY with Simon Kirchin, Professor of Philosophy at the University of
Kent. The image many people have of philosophy is of someone sitting around and endlessly thinking a lot. Perhaps pontificating about things, they know little about at a very abstract level.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Modern, professional philosophy does involve a lot of thinking and some of that involves abstract thinking. But philosophy is a lot more practical than one might think. In this talk we will ponder about a number of real world issues that professional philosophers are currently engaged in. And if you have an image of philosophers being old, white males with beards…take a look at this site and see if you can spot Simon. http://www.whatsitliketobeaphilosopher.com/
