Community Talks In Herne Bay
2.15pm-4.15pm History: The Ambitions Of Henry VIII with Professor Ken Fincham, Lecturer in Early Modern History at the University of Kent. Henry VIII is famous for his six wives (5 of them squeezed into just 14 years 1533-47) but across his whole reign his ambition and priorities changed, and sometimes were changed for him. This Talk explores the complexities of the man, and the objectives he pursued. Were they anything more than glory, lust and money? Professor Fincham will explore Henry’s territorial aspirations; his patronage of the arts and architecture; the drivers for his break from Rome; his interest in religious reform and the relentless search for dynastic and political security.
