COMMUNITY TALKS IN HERNE BAY
TUESDAY 24 MAY (2.15pm-4.15pm) PSYCHOLOGY: MENDING THE MIND
WITH MUSIC: From Research to Practice with Amir-Homayoun Javadi
Lecturer in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Kent. In recent years, mental health disorders have increasingly become a problem, with more than 40% of adults in the UK believing they have a disorder. Additionally, current treatments for mental health disorders are often inadequate, inaccessible and ineffective. Therefore, it is important to find an effective and accessible method of treatment.
Music effectively alters emotions. In a series of studies, we investigated the effects of listening to dance and classical music on emotions. Our findings indicate promising avenues for low-cost and accessible treatment of depression. In this session we will talk about the inspiration behind our research; how our approach is guided by research; our recent results and our vision for the future.
