Community Talks In Herne Bay – Psychology: Cognitive Neuroscience, Body Representions and Perceptual Illusion with Dr Luigi Tame, Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Kent. Despite having a single body, our brain constructs and combine several body representations in order to represent itself and the world around. Dr Tame will explore how multiple body representations are created in order to form a single percept with our body. And how it allows us to represent the external environment and interact with it effectively. Moreover, he will describe and engage the audience in a series of perceptual illusions which are widely used in psychology and neuroscience to study brain functioning. Dr Tame’s research concerns aspects of sensory perception and sensory-motor interaction. He uses a combination of psychophysics and neuroimaging techniques to define behavioural and neural correlates of these phenomena. He is particularly interested in the sense of touch, its interactions with the other senses, the motor system, and the way in which touch is represented and elaborated by the brain.
