Celebrate Advent and Christmas at Rochester Cathedral

Christmas has been celebrated at Rochester Cathedral for over 1400 years. All are invited to come along to a service this December as details of our Advent and Christmas programme are announced.

The beginning of the Advent season will be celebrated on Sunday 3rd December at 6.30pm with the Advent Carol Service and Procession.

Those in Rochester for the Dickensian Christmas Festival can join in with their favourite carols in one of our four free carol services over the weekend. They will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 12.30pm & 3pm.

The family-friendly Christingle service is on Saturday 9th at 12.30pm. Suitable for all ages – it’s a perfect introduction to our Christmas services for families. Discover the meaning behind the iconic Christingle.

Rochester Cathedral’s renowned choir return for the ever-popular Christmas Carol Concert – one of the absolute highlights of the festive season. The concert is on Saturday 16th December and starts at 5pm. This is a ticketed concert to raise money for Rochester Cathedral and tickets can be purchased on the Cathedral’s website.

A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols takes place on the 22nd (7.30pm) and 23rd (5.30pm). This traditional Carol services features readings, carols and performances by the Cathedral Choir and choristers.

On Christmas Eve services beginning at 9.30am with the Cathedral Eucharist. Then at 2pm, the Children’s Nativity Service will begin. This is a perfect service for families as it features the Sunday Club and Cathedral Choristers. The Christmas Eve Carol Service will start at 4.30pm. Then at 11.30pm, all are invited to join us for the Eucharist of Christmas Night. The services on Christmas Eve are extremely popular and anyone wishing to attend is urged to arrive early to guarantee a seat.

Services begin at 8am on Christmas Day with Holy Communion. The Eucharist of Christmas Morning starts at 10.30am. This is the principal service of Christmas Day with Holy Communion, sermons and carols.
