A Tale of Ale
Kent is home to Britain’s oldest brewery and its story will be told at Newington History Group’s monthly meeting (7pm) in Newington Village Hall, High Street, ME9 7JJ. A Tale of Ale will be presented by John Owen, archivist and historian of the Faversham-based Shepherd Neame brewery. Beer has been brewed in the town since 1100.John, who has written a trilogy of books unravelling the development of Shepherd Neame, will draw upon a vast archive of personal and business correspondence to offer an insight into the life of the Neame family and how it moved into brewing. All welcome, £4 at door, inc. refreshments, free parking. Annual membership available (£18). NHG is here to research, promote and help protect the history and heritage of the village and neighbouring areas. It meets on the fourth Thursday at 7pm.
