Age UK Medway provide services to support older people across Medway but we wouldn’t be able to do this without our amazing volunteers. This year has been extremely difficult to attract new volunteers to help deliver these services, due to additional support needed across the board with other organisations. We are currently looking for volunteers who can spare an hour or more to join our fantastic team and gain the knowledge needed to help make a difference to someone’s life. There are currently a range of opportunities available with us, which you can find listed below. The biggest need for volunteers at the moment is for Befrienders across Medway and Meal Delivery Drivers, Day Centre Volunteers and Volunteers in our Charity Shop in Gillingham. • Befriending – Visiting an older person in their home or by telephone to give companionship. • Day Centre – Assisting with preparation for the day, chatting to people and encourage to participate in activities. (Varied times to suit your availability). • Kitchen Assistant – supporting catering staff in keeping the kitchen in order, clearing and washing up, keeping area clear and safe • Drivers to support Day Centre’s – to deliver freshly cooked meals to older people in the community • Escorts to support Day trips • Charity shop – helping to sort and run the shop. • Grounds person to help keep the place tidy and leaf free. We encourage volunteers to engage in training opportunities to support their volunteer role and also have 6 monthly Volunteer Network Meetings for peer support and to enhance the feeling of being part of a team.
