From being described as the ‘lungs’ of our planet’ to providing innumerable resources for humans, Trees are a much-loved part of our everyday life This illustrated talk begins with some of the facts and figures relating to the diversity, utility and physiology of woody perennial plants, before exploring the mythology and folklore of two of Britain’s most recognisable trees – Oak and Yew and two exotic species from Africa, the magnificent Baobabs of Madagascar and the Nakajima tree (a type of fig) of great cultural importance in Uganda.
