Wasps Friend or Foe
Wasps Friend or Foe
22nd July 2.15pm to 4.15pm Herne Bay
with Dr Clive Nuttman, Biologist and Natural History Lecturer in Conservation, Ecology and Wildlife. What is the point of Wasps? They pillage your picnic and pack a powerful sting – without having the good grace to die. But, without wasps the world would be overrun with spiders and insects. Each summer social wasps in the UK capture 14 million kilograms of insect prey, such as caterpillars and greenfly. Rather than being a pest, these important insects are prolific pollinators and a gardener’s friend. Clive will also be talking about some extraordinary names in the natural world, such as Mother Shipton – moth, Camberwell Beauty – butterfly and Isabelline Wheater – a bird.
