Richard III – Villain or Victim

History: Richard III – Villain Or Victim? with Professor Ken Fincham, Emeritus Professor in Early Modern Historyat the University of Kent. Richard III has been a controversial figure from his day to ours. Did he murder his way to the throne in 1483 (including his two nephews) or is that the creation of Tudor propaganda, a device to justify the seizure of the throne by Henry VII in 1485? Or is the evidence ultimately too fragmentary, ambiguous, or contradictory to resolve this question? His modern supporters claim that Richard III had every prospect of being a highly effective king, had his reign lasted longer. Is that just wistful thinking or is it grounded in 15th century ideals of good kingship? This is a lively subject and should provoke some discussion!
